Know Your Carat

Your Guide to Fine Jewellery

Know Your Carat/Karat.

Two words. Endless confusion. Here is everything you need to know about gold karats and diamond carats; so you can choose with complete confidence.

First Things First

Karat vs. Carat — What is the Difference?

KARAT (Kt) — Gold Purity

Measures the purity of gold. The higher the karat, the more pure gold is in the alloy. This affects the colour, durability, and price of the metal. All Roomy's pieces are available in 10Kt, 14Kt, and 18Kt solid gold.

CARAT (ct) — Diamond Weight

Measures the weight of a diamond. One carat equals 0.2 grams. A larger carat weight generally means a larger, more impressive stone. Every Roomy's diamond is graded D–F colour and VVS–VS clarity.

Part One

Understanding Gold Karat

Pure gold (24Kt) is too soft for jewellery — it scratches and bends too easily. So gold is alloyed with other metals for strength. The karat number tells you exactly how much of the alloy is pure gold.

Part Two

Understanding Diamond Carat

Diamond carat is a unit of weight — not size. One carat equals 0.2 grams. Two diamonds at the same carat weight can look very different depending on how they are cut. Cut is what releases the brilliance.

What Carat Weight Looks Like

0.25ct — Delicate, subtle sparkle
0.50ct — Noticeable, elegant presence
1.00ct — Bold classic fine jewellery
2.00ct+ — Statement piece, unmistakable

The 4 Cs — Quick Reference

Cut — Determines brilliance and sparkle
Colour — D–F is colourless (the finest)
Clarity — VVS–VS means virtually flawless
Carat — The weight of the stone

The Roomy's Standard

Every Roomy's diamond is graded D–F colour and VVS–VS clarity. Placing them among the finest stones available. You are not buying a diamond that passes minimum standards. You are buying one that exceeds them.
